What I read in 2022
The books I was drawn to or motivated to read this year came from a mix of personal life experiences, my research and recommendations from others. I tried to vary my authors, topics and be open to different perspectives and don’t necessarily align with each author or premise. I’m always interested in what other people are reading, so thought I would share my own list that has kept me busy this year.
Favourite Book of 2022:
The Art of Gathering by Priya Parker
Priya put words to the gathering experience that considers the human elements beyond folding napkins and ordering food. The Art of Gathering provides essential advice for how to bring people into spaces with purpose and how to design gatherings that lead to intended outcomes. She speaks to the authentic experience. This book is for everyone; if you attend events, lead meetings, host gatherings or plan anything that brings three or more people together, you owe it to yourself and your guests to facilitate with purpose.
Other hightlights:
American Dirt by Jeanine Cummins (fiction, very sobering window into the lives of people fleeing for their lives and a story of resilience and overcoming)
Think Again by Adam Grant (Questions whether we are able to open our minds and challenge our assumptions when presented with new information, can we embrace nuance, uncertainty and multifaceted perspectives)
Lean In by Sheryl Sandberg (Laid out the encouraging and challenging realities women face in the work force, equality in the workplace leads to greater performance and greater happiness for everyone)
